<title>Bisons Double-Up Wings, 4-2</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article215.html</link>
<description>Bisons.com

May has been a great month for the Bisons. The team has won seven of 10 games as several individual players have rebounded nicely from a rough start to the season.

A total team turnaround may now be complete for Buffalo following a 4-2 victory over the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field. Matt Ginter put a tough April behind him with his best outing of the season to collect his first win of the year.

Ginter has pitched well of late, but had a 0-4 record to show for his first six outings in a Bisons jersey. The veteran worked a season-best six innings on Mother's Day and fanned six Red Wings' batters. After allowing solo runs in the first and second innings, Ginter was lights out. He retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, and didn't allow a base runner to reach third base.

<description>Indians.com

Jason Tyner has joined the Indians.

He arrived Sunday from Triple-A Buffalo after the Indians bought this contract.

To allow room for Tyner on the Major League roster, the Indians optioned right-hander Tom Mastny, who'd gotten little work in recent weeks, to Buffalo.

<title>Herd Falls to Wings, 3-2</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article213.html</link>
<description>Bisons.com

A fantastic pitching duel between Buffalo's Jason Stanford and Rochester's Francisco Liriano lived up to its billing, but the Wings had a little more offense to collect the 3-2 victory from Frontier Field.

Stanford has been fantastic for Buffalo since signing with the Indians on April 24. The Bisons Modern Era Strikeout King posted a 1.15ERA in his first three outings and was strong again for the Herd on Saturday.

Stanford added five strikeouts to his franchise-high total that now stands at 304. He seemed to cruise through the middle innings after allowing a solo homerun to Randy Ruiz in the second.

<title>Bisons beat Wings as Aubrey stays hot</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article212.html</link>
<description>Buffalo News

The way things are going in his first week in Triple-A, Michael Aubrey won’t be seeing Akron, Ohio, again any time soon.

Aubrey, who served as the Buffalo Bisons’ designated hitter Friday night, went 3 for 4, scored a run and drove in two others in the Herd’s 4-3, 10-inning victory over the Rochester Red Wings before 4,681 at Frontier Field.

Aubrey — the Cleveland Indians’ No. 1 draft pick (11th overall) in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft — was one of several hitting and pitching standouts as the Bisons won the ninth of their last 12 games and extended their win streak to three games, matching a season high.

<title>Herd Crush Chiefs With Early Dingers</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article211.html</link>
<description>Bisons.com

The Herd hit four home runs in the first three innings and didn't bother to look back from then on, silencing the Chiefs 8-1.

Aaron Herr wasted no time blasting his fifth homer of the season with two outs off of Davis Romero. Herr's homer brought in Danny Sandoval to put the Bisons up 2-0 early in the game.

In the top of the second they did not want to led up, as Ryan Mulhern belted a solo shot on the second pitch of the inning. Jason Tyner would soon reach on an infield grounder to the short stop, and then steal second. Josh Barfield drove in Tyner with two outs on a ground ball up the middle.

<title>Herd Finally Halts Winless Streak Against Syracuse</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article209.html</link>
<description>Bisons.com

It was small-ball that took care of business for the Herd in their first victory over the Syracuse Chiefs this season, getting a productive start from Jeremy Sowers in the 6-3 win.

Manager Torey Lovullo couldn't have asked for a better start out of Sowers, who provided the Bisons with seven scoreless innings in his second win of the season. Sowers allowed only three hits and struck out two batters.

Edward Mujica relieved Sowers in the 8th inning, not allowing a hit. Then, Reid Santos entered in the 9th to seal the deal after allowing three runs on five hits.

<title>Bisons Futility Continues Against Syracuse</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article207.html</link>
<description>WGRZ.com

The Chiefs had plenty of hits to work with Monday night and finally strung enough together to defeat the Bisons for the fifth time this season.

Syracuse had 14 singles, three of which came in the 10th inning of a 3-2 victory over the Herd from Alliance Bank Stadium. Buffalo is now 0-5 on the season against their Thruway-rival.

Catcher Curtis Thigpen had the game-winner. His single off Bubbie Buzachero (1-1) with two outs in the bottom of the 10th scored former-Bison Hector Luna. Brad Snyder charged the ball hard from centerfield, but his throw to the plate was late and Syracuse walked off with the win.

<title>Late Rallies Give Herd a Pair of Wins</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article205.html</link>
<description>Bisons.com

In most games, victory is about the team that makes the most out of their opportunities. That's exactly what the Bisons did on Sunday to collect their fifth and sixth wins in the last eight days.

The Herd jumped on a pair of Knights' fielding miscues to complete a doubleheader sweep of Charlotte from Dunn Tire Park. Both contests were tied late, but Buffalo found a way to pull out each game.

In game one, a Fernando Cortez's throwing error opened the door to a two-run rally for the Bisons as they won 6-4. Rob Bell's error in the night cap jumped started the Herd to a 1-0 victory. Both miscues came while the respective games were tied.

The funny thing, looking back, is that they almost started the season 0-1.

Yeah, they were down 3-2 in the top of the ninth in Las Vegas on April 3 in their first game of season. And when the rally started, nobody could have imagined what it would become. Single, hit batsman, single, single, groundout and a Bobby Wilson single that put the cherry on top. Just like that, four runs and they had a 6-3 lead that would be the final score.

<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article202.html</link>
<description>Chronicle-Telegram

In a predictable decision Saturday, Cliff Lee was named the American League’s pitcher of the month.

Lee, off to arguably the fastest start of any pitcher in the majors, has won his first five starts, while posting a microscopic 0.96 ERA to lead the big leagues. The left-hander allowed just one run through his first four outings, beginning a scoreless innings streak that ended at 27 Wednesday in an 8-3 victory over the Mariners.

“It’s nice, but I’m more concerned with my team winning games,” Lee said of receiving the award. “We’ve got a long ways to go.

Almost everyone has had that grandfather-type in their life. You know, that older male to identify with and look up to.

Not many can say that legendary Major League Baseball skipper Whitey Herzog was that figure, though. Perhaps that’s why when Aaron Herr talks about the time he spent as an adolescent in the St. Louis Cardinals clubhouse he gets a huge smile on his face.

“He always let me do whatever I wanted,” Herr said of Herzog. “I even had my own locker.”

<title>Winkelsas pitches a late-night highlight</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article200.html</link>
<description>Buffalo News

Joe Winkelsas’ career in professional baseball has spanned 13 years and 16 teams. He’s endured trauma and triumph, overcome marijuana addiction, survived injuries and surgeries, trips through the independent leagues and a seven-year wait to get back to the majors. He even retired a couple of times.

As first chronicled by The News two years ago, Winkelsas’ rise from city of Buffalo garbage hauler to the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen in the summer of 2006 became fodder across the Internet and in virtually every major baseball notes column.

But the eight-pitch, 1-2-3 ninth inning of relief the Bishop Timon-St. Jude product threw late Friday night for the Charlotte Knights certainly stands as one of his signature career moments.

<title>Herd's Brown goes on DL</title>

<description>Buffalo News

Buffalo Bisons first baseman Jordan Brown, one of the team's most potent hitters for the first month of the season, was put on the disabled list Friday with a knee injury and replaced on the Herd's roster by former Cleveland Indians No. 1 draft pick Michael Aubrey.

Brown was batting .271 in 25 games for the Bisons with an International League-leading 11 doubles and 10 RBIs. He first injured his knee Sunday against Pawtucket and aggravated it during Thursday's win over Charlotte in Dunn Tire Park.

<title>Aubrey’s double makes it a wash</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article196.html</link>
<description>Buffalo News

Manager Torey Lovullo had to send yet another ugly report to Cleveland early this morning after the Buffalo Bisons’ rain-delayed, 10-3 loss to the Charlotte Knights in Dunn Tire Park. But at least the folks in Progressive Field will be happy to read one section of it.

It will be the part that chronicles how first baseman Michael Aubrey, an oft-injured former No. 1 draft pick of the Tribe, rapped a two-run double in the third inning for his first Triple- A hit.

Aubrey, Cleveland’s top pick in 2003 out of Tulane University, figured to be in Buffalo perhaps as soon as 2005. But he never got here until Friday because of a series of back, knee and hamstring injuries that has prevented him from ever playing more than 98 games in a season. In fact, he played just 107 games combined the last three years.

Charlotte took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Herd went up 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Brad Snyder hit a two-out, two-run double.

<title>SWB Yanks’ pen struggles in win</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article194.html</link>
<description>Citizens Voice

After scoring eight runs in the first four innings and getting yet another strong start from Dan Giese, the Yankees were forced to use five relievers and get four outs from closer Jose Veras before leaving Dunn Tire Park in Buffalo with a 10-6 win over the Bisons. It had dissolved into a fairly tense two-run game before an error and a hit batter drove in two runs for the Yankees in the ninth.

With two on and two outs in the eighth, the Yankees turned to Veras to keep the go-ahead run from scoring. Veras struck out Ben Francisco to end the eighth, then sent the side down in order in the ninth to get his league-leading ninth save.

“Four big outs,” manager Dave Miley said. “The runs we scored early we were hoping to give some guys some work and give him the night off, but it didn’t work out.” </description>

<title>Two runs, no victory for Yanks</title>
<link>http://www.bisonsinsider.com/Article192.html</link>
<description>Times Leader

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees’ inability to score bundles of runs finally caught up to them on Monday night.

After squeaking out three victories in four games despite not putting up more than three runs in any game, the Yankees couldn’t overcome a five-run deficit in a 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Bisons.

Perhaps it was the chilly 43-degree temperature at Dunn Tire Park that had the first-place Yanks thinking it was football season. More likely, it was a combination of not getting hits at the right time and effective pitching by a quartet of Buffalo pitchers.
